Dabistan-e-Lakhnau ke kuch namoone #3: Saaqib Lakhnavi

Continuing the series, I present Mirza Zaakir Hussain Qizilbaash Saaqib Lakhnavi. Saaqib was a favourite ever since I obtained his deewan from the Uttar Pradeh Urdu Academy on the recommendations of Kidwai sahab. Unfortunately, during my ill-advised movement in 2008, I had to transfer it to the ‘safe-keeping’ of someone, who despite various requests, never found the time to return it. I was in desperation as a return to the UP Urdu Academy was not concievable for quite some time, but luckily the Anjuman Taraqqi Urdu (Hind) proved my salvation and I found another copy there,

Anyway, here is a classic Saaqib ghazal.

Ek naqsh hain qudrat ka ya soorat-e-zeba hai
Aiina idhar ko hai na jaane udhar kya hai

Halat mere zakhmon ki seene mein maza kya hai
Isko wohi samjhenge jin logon ne dekha hai

Ashkon ka yeh toofan hain khoon nab mere dil ka
Bhar lijiye ek chullu bahta hua darya hai

Kya jhuk ke uthata hai bar-e-gham o hasrat ko
Ae rahro aage badh duniya mein dhara kya hai

Hain taur pe ek khilvat bijli ke tajalli mein
Hoshiyar sarak jaayen sunte hain ke pardah hai

Woh husn-e-tamanna kush maghroor ho tum jis par
Tum ne to suna hoga in aankhone ne dekha hai

Kya jaane pahal ki hai kisne wohi mahroom hai
Main hoon ke tadapta hoon dil hain ke dhadakta hai

Raaz-e-ghum-e-dil kyunkar ab tak raha posheedah
Nasur hazaaron mein jo zakhm hain rista hai

Kis jalwe pe marte hain hum se na koi pooche
Pehchan nahi sakte lekin kabhi dekha hai

Jannat hai yehi duniya ‘Saaqib’ jo qanayat ho
Jis shaakh mein saaye ho samjho wahi tauba hai
